A wall-mounted rail carries a soft PU (polyurethane) padded cushion that is easy to wipe clean. Choose a white, grey or blue pad – grey and blue give visual contrast against a white wall.

Back rests are a common part of accessible toilet installations in public buildings, care homes and adapted homes, and are fitted where the toilet is set away from the wall so the user has nothing to lean on.

Key features & benefits

Wall mounted back rest rail with PU padded cushion

Soft, wipe-clean padding

White, grey or blue

Gives back support when the toilet is set forward from the wall

Suitable for accessible toilets, care homes and home adaptations

Choosing and positioning

Choose a colour to suit the room – white for a discreet look, grey or blue to contrast with the wall. The back rest should be positioned so the pad sits comfortably behind the user's lower back when seated; the exact height depends on the toilet and the user. Pair it with an AKW 1800 Series fold up toilet support rail for full support at the toilet.

Installation notes

A back rest is only as strong as the wall it is fixed to. Always use fixings suited to the wall type (solid masonry, timber stud or plasterboard with noggins or a pattress board) and use every fixing point. Wall fixings are not normally supplied, because the right fixing depends on your wall. Check for hidden pipes and cables before drilling. Where a back rest is being fitted for a specific person, an occupational therapist can advise on the best height and position.

Sizes & product codes

Colour

AKW code

EAN

White

01190WH

5055295107533

Grey

01190GR

5055295109766

Blue

01190BU

5055295109759

Technical specification

Product

Padded back rest rail

Padding

PU (polyurethane), wipe clean

Colours

White, Grey, Blue

Mounting

Wall mounted

Fixings

Not supplied – choose to suit your wall

Frequently asked questions

Who needs a toilet back rest?

Anyone who needs support to sit upright on the toilet, particularly where the toilet is set forward from the wall, as in many accessible toilets.

Is the pad easy to clean?

Yes – the PU padding wipes clean.

Which colour should I choose?

Grey or blue contrasts with a white wall, for clear visibility.

Are fixings included?

No – choose fixings suited to your wall.

Need help choosing?

Not sure which colour or product you need?
