A mirror is the one item in a bathroom nobody does without, and the easiest way to change how large and how bright the room feels.
Sizing and positioning
As a rule of thumb, the mirror should be a little narrower than the basin or vanity unit below it — matching the width exactly tends to look heavy. Hang it so the centre sits at roughly eye level for the household, around 1500-1600mm from the floor.
Illuminated or plain?
LED illuminated mirrors light the face evenly from the sides or perimeter, which is far better for shaving and make-up than a ceiling light casting shadows downward. Many include a demister pad that keeps a clear patch after a shower, and some add shaver sockets or touch dimming.
Plain mirrors are cheaper, need no electrical work, and can go anywhere. If your bathroom lighting is already good, they are perfectly adequate.
Electrical safety
Any illuminated mirror is an electrical installation in a wet room and must be wired by a qualified electrician to the appropriate IP rating for its zone. Factor that into the cost.
