Floor Mounted Vanity Units

A floor standing vanity unit rests directly on the floor rather than fixing to the wall, which makes it the practical choice where the wall cannot take the weight of a wall-hung unit — stud walls, older properties, or anywhere you would rather not risk it.

Choosing a width

Widths run from 400mm for a cloakroom up to 1200mm for a double basin. 600mm and 800mm are the most common in a family bathroom, giving usable storage without dominating the room. Allow at least 200mm either side of the unit for comfortable access.

Floor standing or wall hung?

Floor standing units are simpler to fit, need no structural wall reinforcement, and hide the trap and pipework behind a plinth. Wall hung units make a small room feel larger and are far easier to clean beneath, but need a solid fixing.

Finishes

Gloss white remains the most popular and reflects light well in a small bathroom. Matt greys and anthracite hide fingerprints better, and wood effects such as oak suit traditional and shaker-style rooms.
