Whale Shower Pumps

What they do

The pump moves shower waste water up and away to the soil stack, allowing a level-access shower on a floor that cannot be breached. The pump pairs with a gulley in the tray or former — both parts need specifying together.

Choosing between pump systems

Whale units are typically compact and suit tight installations. AKW pumps integrate directly with AKW's own gulley range, which is simpler if you are already fitting an AKW wet floor former. Check compatibility before mixing brands.

Noise

Any waste pump makes noise, and it runs while the shower is in use rather than briefly. Where the pump sits under a bedroom or beside a quiet room, look at the stated noise level — it is a common source of regret.

Installation and servicing

A fused spur, wired by a qualified electrician, plus accessible positioning for maintenance. Filters need periodic cleaning, so a pump sealed behind fixed panelling will cause problems later.
