Anti-slip safety flooring is the vinyl sheet used across a wet room floor. Welded at the seams and coved up the wall, it forms a continuous waterproof surface with far better grip underfoot than tiles.
Why vinyl rather than tiles in a wet room
Tiles rely on grout lines that can crack and let water through, and even textured tiles become slippery when wet and soapy. Safety vinyl has slip resistance built into the material itself, and welded seams mean there are no joints for water to find. It is the standard specification in care homes and accessible bathrooms for exactly those reasons.
Slip ratings
Look for the R rating: R10 is suitable for most domestic wet rooms, R11 and above for commercial or care settings where the floor stays wet for longer. Some flooring also carries a barefoot rating (Class A, B or C) which is the more relevant measure in a shower area.
Installation
This is not a DIY floor. It needs a properly prepared substrate, hot-welded seams and coving formed at the wall junction. A poorly welded seam defeats the entire purpose. Use a flooring fitter experienced in safety vinyl.
Waste compatibility
Crucially, vinyl needs a waste with a clamping ring that traps the flooring to form the seal. Do not fit a tiled-floor waste under vinyl — see our waste selection guide and wet floor formers.
