The parts that make a wet room screen work properly, and the ones most often forgotten at the ordering stage.
Brace bars
A tall glass panel fixed only at the wall will flex when leaned on. A ceiling or wall brace bar braces the free edge and is essential on most walk-in panels. Check whether one came with your screen — many are supplied without. You also need something solid to fix it to: a plasterboard ceiling needs noggins above.
Seals and wipers
The rubber seals along the bottom and side edges do the real work of keeping water in. They perish over years of use and are cheap to replace — well worth doing before assuming a screen has failed.
Extension profiles
Wall profiles absorb out-of-plumb walls, and extension kits add width where the opening is slightly larger than the screen. In an older property with uneven walls these are often the difference between a neat fit and a compromise.
Wall channels
Where a screen meets a tiled wall, the channel or profile carries the fixing and forms the seal. Getting it silicone-sealed properly, and leaving it to cure fully before use, prevents most screen leaks.
