Shower Waste Pumps

A shower waste pump lifts waste water away where gravity cannot — a ground floor flat, a solid concrete slab that cannot be cut, or a bathroom a long way from the soil stack.

First, make sure this is what you need

These pump water away from the shower. If your problem is a weak spray coming out of the shower head, you need a booster pump instead — a completely different product. This is the single most common mix-up in the category.

The pump is half the system

A waste pump pairs with a pumped gulley fitted in the tray or wet floor former. The gulley collects, the pump moves. Both parts must be specified together and matched — see our wet floor former wastes.

Automatic or mixer triggered?

Automatic pumps sense water in the gulley and run on demand — the usual domestic choice. Mixer valve kits are triggered by the shower valve itself, giving more predictable running, which suits care settings.

Two things people regret

They need a fused spur wired by a qualified electrician, and they make noise while the shower runs. A pump under a bedroom floor will be heard. Never seal one behind fixed panelling either — filters need cleaning.
