Comfort Height Toilets

Comfort Height Toilets

View as

A comfort height toilet sits taller than a standard pan — usually around 450mm to the seat rather than 390-400mm, roughly the height of a dining chair. That difference makes sitting down and standing up markedly easier.

Who benefits

Comfort height suits anyone with reduced mobility, arthritis, a hip or knee replacement, or simply taller users who find a standard pan uncomfortably low. It is a common specification in accessible bathrooms and increasingly a default choice in family homes planning ahead.

The trade-off

It is worth being honest about this: a higher pan is less comfortable for small children, whose feet will not reach the floor, and some research suggests a lower seated position is better posturally. In a family bathroom that is a genuine consideration.

How high is high enough?

Check the stated seat height rather than the pan height, since the seat adds around 20mm. For Doc M compliance in a commercial or public setting, specific heights apply — see our Doc M packs.

Where a fixed comfort height pan is not practical, a raising plinth can lift an existing toilet instead. Browse the full inclusive bathing range for grab rails and support.
