A cloakroom vanity unit is a compact basin-and-cupboard combination built for spaces where a standard 600mm unit simply will not go — downstairs WCs, en-suites and under-stairs cloakrooms.
Width and, more importantly, depth
Widths start around 400mm. But in a cloakroom it is usually depth that decides whether something works: a standard vanity projects 400mm or more from the wall, while slimline cloakroom units come in around 200-250mm. Measure the distance from the wall to the door swing before anything else.
What you lose
Worth being realistic. A slimline basin is shallow, so it splashes more readily than a full-size one, and the cupboard beneath holds little more than spare toilet rolls. That is the trade for fitting a basin into a room that otherwise could not take one.
Wall hung or floor standing
Wall hung units make a tiny room feel less cramped and let you mop underneath, but need a solid fixing. Floor standing units hide the pipework and need no wall reinforcement.
Taps
Check the tap hole drilling and choose a mini basin mixer — a full-size tap on a small basin will overshoot the bowl and splash.
