A square shower bath widens at one end with a straight, squared profile rather than a curve. It gives the maximum usable showering area of any shower bath shape, because none of the width is lost to a radius.
Square or curved?
The choice is mostly aesthetic, but there is a practical difference. A square end gives more floor area to stand on and suits contemporary bathrooms. A curved P-shape is softer to look at and slightly easier to walk past in a narrow room, since there is no corner to catch a hip on.
Handing
These baths are handed and cannot be reversed. Stand in the doorway: if the wide end is to your left, you need a left hand bath. Check your existing tap and waste positions before deciding.
Sizing
1500mm and 1700mm are the common lengths. The wide end is typically 850mm against 700mm at the tap end, so measure the floor at both points rather than assuming a uniform rectangle.
Panels and screens
A square shower bath needs a matching shaped front panel — a straight panel will not follow the profile. You will also want a handed bath screen at the wide end.
