A hinged shower door swings open on a wall-mounted hinge, like a normal door. It gives the widest possible entry opening for a given width — the entire door width is usable, unlike a sliding or bi-fold door where part is always fixed.
You need clearance
The obvious catch. A hinged door needs its full width of clear floor in front to swing into. Measure that space with the basin, toilet and bathroom door in mind before choosing. If the clearance is not there, a bi-fold or sliding door is the answer.
Why choose hinged anyway
Fewer moving parts than any other door type — no rollers to wear, no folding mechanism to stick. That makes it the most durable option and the easiest to keep clean, since there is no track collecting grime.
The wide opening also matters for accessibility, where a narrow entry gap can be a genuine obstacle.
Glass and seals
6mm is standard, 8mm noticeably more substantial and usually paired with better hinges. Check the magnetic closing strip and the door seal — on a hinged door these do all the work of keeping water in.
Match to a square or rectangular tray.
