Shower Tray Wastes

Shower tray wastes are not universal — the right one depends on your tray's outlet size and how much depth you have below the floor.

Outlet size

Most modern shower trays take a 90mm waste, usually a fast-flow type that clears water quickly on a low profile tray. Level access trays such as the AKW Braddan use a 50mm threaded outlet instead. Check your tray's specification before ordering — the two are not interchangeable.

Depth below the tray

A trap needs room beneath the tray, and on a low profile tray over joists that space is often tight. Gravity wastes here range from around 60mm to 124mm below the tray depending on the water seal. Where depth is very limited, or there is no fall to the soil stack, a pumped waste is the answer.

Water seal depth

A deeper water seal resists odour backflow better, so fit the deepest your floor allows. A 50mm seal is preferable to a 19mm seal wherever there is room — particularly in a shower that is only used occasionally, where a shallow trap can dry out.

Finishes

Chrome is the standard finish, with matt black and brushed brass available on selected fast-flow wastes to match contemporary brassware.
