Wall panels are only waterproof if the joints are. These are the trims, adhesives and sealants that make the difference between a panelled shower that lasts and one that lets water behind.
Trims you will need
- Internal corner trims — where two panels meet in a corner.
- External corner trims — around a projecting corner or reveal.
- End caps — finishing an exposed panel edge.
- H-joint or joining strips — where two panels meet on a flat run.
Count these from your layout before ordering. Running short mid-installation with adhesive already open is a genuinely awkward position.
Adhesive
Use the adhesive specified for your panel type. Standard tile adhesive will not bond PVC or laminate panels reliably, and a failed bond behind a panel is invisible until damage appears elsewhere.
Sealant
Every cut edge — around the shower valve, at the tray junction, at any cut-out — needs sealing. This is where panelled showers fail, and it is entirely avoidable. Use a quality sanitary silicone with a mould inhibitor and let it cure fully before running the shower.
