A floor standing tall unit gives full-height bathroom storage without needing a wall strong enough to carry it. Everything rests on the floor, so the wall only steadies it.

When floor standing is the right choice

Stud walls, older properties, or anywhere you would rather not test the fixings. A loaded tall cupboard is a real weight, and a wall mounted unit concentrates all of it on a few brackets. Floor standing sidesteps the question entirely.

It also suits heavier contents — cleaning products, spare towels, bulk items.

Sizing

Typically 300-400mm wide and 1600-1900mm high, with adjustable shelves. Check the depth against your walkway: a 400mm deep unit in a narrow bathroom will feel intrusive, and a slimline version may serve better.

Positioning

Tall units work best squaring off the end of a run, or filling a corner. Avoid blocking a window — losing natural light will make the room feel considerably smaller than the storage is worth.

Fixing

Still bracket the unit to the wall at the top. It carries its own weight, but a tall cupboard that can tip is a hazard, particularly with children in the house.
