One Tap Hole Wash Basin

A one tap hole basin is drilled for a single mono basin mixer — one spout, one or two levers, all in the centre. It is by far the most common arrangement in modern UK bathrooms.

Match the basin to the tap

Tap holes cannot be added or filled after the fact, so this decision comes first. One hole takes a mono mixer. Two holes take a separate hot and cold pillar tap pair. No holes means a wall mounted or countertop tap.

Choosing a style

• Full pedestal — hides the trap and pipework completely, and takes some weight off the wall.
• Semi pedestal — covers the pipework while leaving the floor clear beneath.
• Wall hung — nothing touches the floor, easiest to clean under, but needs a solid fixing.
• Countertop and inset — sits on or drops into a vanity unit worktop.

Sizing

Widths run from around 400mm for a cloakroom up to 800mm and beyond. In a small room, depth from the wall matters as much as width — a shallow projection basin can make a cloakroom usable.
