Mirror Cabinets

A mirror cabinet does two jobs in the space of one: the mirror you need above the basin, and enclosed storage for the things you would rather not leave on display.

Sizing

Widths typically run from 400mm to 800mm and up. Match roughly to the basin or vanity below — a little narrower usually looks better than exactly equal. Check the depth too, since a cabinet projects further from the wall than a plain mirror and can feel intrusive above a shallow basin.

Single or double door?

Single door units suit cloakrooms and narrow walls. Double door cabinets give more storage and, usefully, let you angle both doors to see the sides of your head. Some include a mirrored interior back panel for the same reason.

Illuminated options

LED cabinets light the face from the front rather than casting shadows from a ceiling fitting, and many include a demister pad, a shaver socket or touch dimming. All of these need wiring by a qualified electrician to the correct IP rating for the zone.

Fitting

Cabinets are heavier than plain mirrors, particularly when loaded. Use appropriate fixings for the wall type — a stud wall needs the fixings into timber, not just plasterboard.
