Close Coupled Toilets

A close coupled toilet has the cistern sitting directly on top of the pan — the most common arrangement in UK homes, and usually the most straightforward to fit or replace.

Why close coupled?

Everything is above floor level and accessible, so maintenance is simple and there is no frame to build. If you are replacing an existing close coupled suite, the pipework is often already in the right place.

Check the projection

Projection is how far the toilet stands out from the wall — typically 600mm to 680mm. In a small bathroom or cloakroom this is the measurement that matters most, and short projection models are worth seeking out. Measure from the finished wall, not the skirting.

Rimless or standard?

Rimless pans remove the hidden rim where limescale and bacteria collect, so they wipe clean in seconds rather than needing a brush pushed up under a lip. Worth the modest premium in any household.
