AKW Shower Pumps

An AKW shower pump lifts waste water away from a shower where gravity cannot do the job — typically a ground floor flat, a solid concrete slab, or a bathroom a long way from the soil stack.

Waste pump, not a booster pump

Worth being clear on the distinction. These pump waste water away from the shower. If your problem is weak water coming out of the shower head, you need a booster pump instead — a different product entirely.

How the system works

The pump pairs with a pumped gulley fitted in the shower tray or wet floor former. The gulley collects the water; the pump moves it. Both parts must be specified together and matched — see our wet floor former wastes.

Automatic or mixer valve triggered?

Automatic pumps sense water in the gulley and run on demand — the usual domestic choice. Mixer valve kits are triggered by the shower valve itself, which gives more predictable running and suits care settings.

Installation

Pumps need a fused spur wired by a qualified electrician, and they need to be accessible for servicing — never seal one behind fixed panelling. Consider noise too: a pump running under a bedroom floor will be heard.
