Rectangular shower trays are the most versatile shape in a UK bathroom, fitting neatly into an alcove between two walls or against a single wall with a screen. The longer the tray, the more it feels like a walk-in shower rather than a cubicle.
Choosing a size
We stock rectangular trays from 1000x700mm up to 1800x900mm. As a rough guide:
- 1000x700mm to 1200x760mm — standard alcove replacements, often swapping out an old bath.
- 1200x900mm to 1500x820mm — comfortable walk-in showering, with room for a shower seat.
- 1600x700mm to 1800x900mm — full bath-replacement footprints, and the usual choice where a carer needs to assist.
Measure the opening at floor level rather than at worktop height, and check the wall is reasonably true before ordering a tray that fills the space exactly.
Height and access
Low profile trays around 40-45mm high are far easier to step over than a traditional raised tray, and some — such as the AKW Braddan at 40mm — can be recessed into a timber floor for a completely level threshold. If step-free access matters, filter for our low level shower trays.
Wastes
Most rectangular trays take a 90mm fast-flow waste; level access trays generally use a 50mm threaded gravity or pumped waste. Depth below the floor is the deciding factor — see our waste selection guide.
