A bath waste and overflow is a two-part fitting: the plug and outlet in the bottom of the bath, and the overflow cover at the top end, joined by a flexible pipe behind the bath. It is sold as one kit because the two have to work together.

This is the click version, with a large plug cap: press it down to close the bath, press again to open. No chain, no plug hanging over the side.

It is the sensible default for most baths — tidier than a plug and chain, and considerably cheaper than the pop-up or easy clean versions.

If you want to be able to lift the top out and clear hair from underneath, the easy clean click bath waste does that for a little more.

Before you order

Bath taps are almost never supplied with a waste, so on a new bath this is a separate buy — and it is the part people forget until the bath is in.

Check there is access behind the bath panel for the overflow pipe, and enough depth under the bath for the trap. On a low or panelled-in bath that clearance is the thing to measure.

Finish and looking after it

Polished chrome needs nothing more than a wipe with a soft damp cloth. Keep abrasive cleaners and strong limescale removers away from it — both cut through the plating.
