You do not have to buy one

Kartell's freestanding baths are supplied with a chrome waste and overflow as standard, so this is an upgrade rather than a missing part. Buy it only if you want the waste to match brassware that is not chrome.

Why it matters on a freestanding bath

On a panelled bath the waste is barely noticed. On a freestanding bath it sits in the middle of a smooth white surface with nothing else competing for attention, so it is one of the few chances to tie the bath to the rest of the room. Matching it to brushed brass or black brassware pulls the scheme together in a way a chrome waste will not.

Specification

Unslotted is the right type here – a freestanding bath has its overflow built in rather than running through the waste, so it does not need the slot that a conventional bath waste has.

Fitting tips

Fit the waste before the bath is in its final position, while you can still reach underneath. Bed it on the sealant the manufacturer specifies rather than whatever is to hand, and do not overtighten – acrylic will distort long before the waste does. Fill and check for leaks before the bath is set down for good.
