Aqualux 4 Fold Bath Screen 1400 x 840mm – Black or Polished Silver (AQ4FBLK / AQ4FSLV)

Aqualux 4 Fold Bath Screen 1400 x 840mm – Black or Polished Silver (AQ4FBLK / AQ4FSLV)

The Aqualux 4 Fold is a concertina bath screen – four narrow panels that fold flat against the wall when you are not using the shower, rather than one large panel that swings out into the room. It comes in black or polished silver.

Why choose a folding screen?

Two reasons, and they are both about space.

• It needs no swing room. In a small bathroom, a hinged screen has to have a clear arc to open into. A folding screen does not, so it suits a room where the bath is tight against a WC, a basin or a door.
• It folds out of the way completely. Concertinaed back against the wall it takes up almost no width, which makes getting in and out of the bath easier – worth thinking about for anyone who finds a fixed screen awkward to step around.

It also covers 840mm, wider than the 780mm of a standard hinged screen.

How it differs from Kartell's own screens

Aqualux is a separate manufacturer, and this screen is built to a different specification from Kartell's Koncept and Nero. It is worth knowing before you choose:

The thinner glass is what allows four panels to fold into the space of one. It is a trade: you gain the folding action and the extra width, and the panels are lighter and less substantial than a single 6mm sheet.

Specification

Before you order

• Check what is behind the tiles. The screen fixes to the wall and needs something solid to fix into.
• More moving parts than a hinged screen. Four panels and their hinges need wiping down and keeping clear of soap residue if the folding action is to stay smooth.
• It is a screen, not an enclosure. It covers the showering end of the bath rather than its full length, so expect some splash beyond it.

Fitting tips

Fit the bath and let the silicone seal along the walls cure fully before hanging the screen. Check the panels fold and unfold freely before you seal anything – a folding screen is far less forgiving of a frame fitted out of true than a single fixed panel is. Seal along the bottom where the screen meets the bath rim, leaving the vertical wall joint until last.
