Kartell K-VIT Coast Freestanding Bath – White Gloss (All Sizes)

Kartell K-VIT Coast Freestanding Bath – White Gloss (All Sizes)

The Coast is a soft-sided freestanding bath – a gently rounded oval with a slim, even rim and a smooth skirt that runs all the way to the floor. It is the quieter of Kartell's two freestanding shapes, and the one that sits comfortably in a traditional room as well as a modern one.

It comes in three sizes, so it suits a bathroom that has room for a freestanding bath without having a great deal to spare. It is double skinned in 5mm acrylic, and supplied with a chrome integrated waste and overflow – so unlike most baths there is nothing else to buy to get water in and out of it. Kartell back it with a 25-year guarantee.

Key features

• Three sizes – 1500, 1600 and 1700mm
• Waste and overflow included – chrome, integrated, supplied with the bath
• Double ended – no tap holes, so you can lie at either end
• Double skinned 5mm acrylic
• Smooth full skirt – finished on every side, nothing to panel or hide
• Rounded oval shape – softer than a square freestanding bath
• 25-year guarantee

Choose your size

The 1500 and 1600 are both 750mm wide; the 1700 is wider at 800mm, so check your floor space against the size you choose rather than assuming they scale together.

The 1700 measures 1685 x 804mm actual, stands 585mm tall and holds 270 litres, with an internal length of 1090mm across the base and 450mm of bathing depth.

Taps and waste

A freestanding bath has no tap holes, so it needs either a floor-standing bath shower mixer or wall-mounted taps. Plan the plumbing before the floor goes down – a floor-standing mixer needs its feed brought up through the floor in exactly the right spot, and that is very difficult to change afterwards.

The waste is included, in chrome. If your brassware is brushed brass or black, Kartell make a matching click clack waste to swap it for – on a freestanding bath the waste sits in the middle of a plain white surface with nothing else competing for attention, so it is one of the few chances to tie the bath to the rest of the room.

Before you order

• Leave room to clean round it. A freestanding bath needs a gap on every side – push it against a wall and you lose the whole point of it, and you cannot reach behind to clean.
• Plan the plumbing first. Feeds and waste come up through the floor, so their positions have to be set before the bath arrives.
• Think about the floor. The bath itself is 46 to 50kg empty, and the 1700 holds 270kg of water on top of that before anyone gets in – concentrated in the middle of a room rather than against a supporting wall.
• Check the route in. Freestanding baths are bulky and rigid – measure doorways, landings and any turn on the stairs before delivery day.
• Taps are sold separately. The waste and overflow are not – they come with the bath.

Fitting tips

Set the bath out on the floor and mark the waste position before committing to anything. Level it carefully – a freestanding bath is seen from every angle and any lean shows against the floor line rather than being hidden by a panel. Once the waste is connected, check for leaks before the bath is finally positioned, because access underneath is limited once it is down.
