The Proton is Kartell's contract bath – a straightforward, hard-wearing single ended bath for rental properties, new builds and busy family bathrooms where value matters most. At 380mm it's the shallowest of the Unity by K-VIT baths, with a rounded, sloping backrest, so it fills faster and uses less hot water: 160 to 180 litres, against 198 to 228 for a Spirit of the same length. It comes in 1500, 1600 and 1700mm lengths, all 700mm wide. Made in Britain from sanitaryware-grade acrylic on an encapsulated baseboard, and backed by Kartell's 25-year Unity guarantee.

Choose your size

Made to its full size: unlike the Refine and Spirit, which are made slightly under their nominal size, the Proton measures a full 1500, 1600 or 1700 x 700mm. In a recess that measures exactly that length, or one that's slightly out of square, it will be a tight fit – measure carefully.

Panels for the Proton

The Proton sits at 510mm, so it takes Kartell's Supastyle panels made to that height rather than the 515mm standard panels. Sold separately:

You only need the end panel if one end of the bath is open, as in a corner layout. A bath fitted into an alcove between two walls needs the front panel alone – ordering an end panel you can't use is an easy mistake to make.

Before you order

• Measure the recess at the back, the middle and the front. Walls are rarely square, and with no allowance under the nominal size, the Proton has to fit the narrowest measurement.
• Check the route in. The bath has to pass through doorways, round landings and up the stairs – measure any tight turn before delivery day.
• Taps, waste and panels are sold separately. With no tap holes, decide your tap position before the bath goes in – it's much easier to drill before it's fitted.
• Think about the floor. Full to capacity, a Proton holds between 160 and 180kg of water before anyone gets in, so the floor underneath needs to be sound.

Fitting tips

Level the bath with the rim at 510mm – the height the Supastyle panels are made to. Fix it following the data sheet and fitting instructions below, then fill the bath with water before running the silicone seal along the walls. Sealing a full bath means the joint cures with the bath at its heaviest, so it won't pull away the first time someone gets in.
