For a bathroom or kitchen that needs to feel brighter, this white porcelain in a 600x1200mm format is a practical starting point. The surface is matt rather than glossy, so it reflects light softly without glare, and the faint stone-effect print stops it looking flat or clinical.

The white is a soft, slightly warm shade. On a floor it reads as a pale stone; on a wall it behaves much like a painted surface, giving a clean backdrop for coloured furniture or dark brassware. The two-layer print process gives the colour consistency across tiles.

Porcelain of this size is suited to open floors, shower walls and long hallway runs, and the dense body copes with water and footfall. It is for indoor use on walls and floors. A box holds two tiles, which is 1.44 square metres, so allow extra for cutting.

Working out how many boxes

Measure the wall or floor in square metres, add 10% for cuts and breakages, divide by 1.44 and round up to the next whole box. Order everything you need in one go – shade can vary a little between production batches, and buying all your boxes together keeps the whole area from the same run.

Fitting notes

Fix with a flexible porcelain adhesive, back-buttering each tile and bedding floors solidly. A narrow joint of 2-3mm suits the large format. Check the substrate is flat before you start, as a 1200mm tile will show any dips. Work from two or three boxes at once to blend the print.
