The Kartell K-VIT Viktory range is traditional styling at the affordable end — crosshead handles on a simple rounded body, in polished chrome.

This is a pair of basin pillar taps: two separate taps, one hot and one cold.

Pillar taps or a mixer?

Pillar taps are the traditional arrangement — two separate taps, no mixing. On a period bathroom they’re also the historically correct choice: an old basin was never designed for a mixer, and crossheads either side of the bowl look right in a way a single spout doesn’t.

Choose them where the basin has two tap holes. If yours has a single central hole, you want the Viktory mono basin mixer instead — and that one includes a waste, which this pair doesn’t.

Where pillar taps genuinely win is on a two-hole basin you’re keeping. Fitting a mixer would mean replacing the basin, so a pair of taps is both the cheaper swap and the simpler fit.

The honest trade-off: you can’t set a temperature. It’s hot or cold or a hand under each.

Traditional look, modern mechanism

Quarter-turn ceramic disc valves rather than washers. Traditional pillar taps were the classic dripper, needing a new washer every couple of years — ceramic discs don’t perish, so you get the period appearance without the period maintenance.

Before you order

Check your basin has two tap holes at standard centres, with room either side of the bowl for the handles to turn.

The waste is sold separately.

Suitable for low pressure systems, so they work on gravity-fed plumbing as well as mains pressure.
