Description

A wetroom screen is a single fixed pane of glass with no door — you simply walk in past it. It's the most open way to build a shower, and the easiest to clean, because there's no track, no rollers and no seals to collect limescale.

This is the Nero version in matt black. Against a pale tiled wall the black frame reads as a deliberate outline rather than disappearing the way chrome does — it's the finish to choose if you want the shower to be a feature. The glass is 8mm toughened, a full 2000mm tall, with an easy-clean coating.

Worth knowing: matt black shows water spots and dust more readily than chrome. The easy-clean coating deals with the glass, but the frame itself wants an occasional wipe.

What's in the box

Kartell sell the glass and the fixing hardware as two codes, and this listing supplies both together — the glass panel plus the black profile kit (KCNER-CONV), which is the wall profile and the bracing bar. You need both; the glass won't stand up without them.

The bracing bar is the horizontal arm running from the top of the glass back to the wall. It stops the panel flexing and isn't optional. Check you have something solid to fix it to before ordering — the ceiling post alternative is only made in chrome, which would spoil the look here, so a black screen really needs a wall to brace to.

Your floor has to be right

A wetroom screen has no tray and no upstand — water hits the floor and has to run away on its own. That means either a fully tanked floor with a fall to a drain, or a wetroom floor former set into the joists. Fitting a screen over a level, untanked floor will flood the room.

Measuring up

Screens have far less adjustment than doors — about 15mm, against 40mm on a sliding door. Measure at floor level and at the top of where the profile will sit, and work to the narrower figure.

  • 300mm hinged return panel — available in matching black. A short pivoting panel at the open end that knocks back the spray, and the most effective way to reduce water escaping into the room.
  • Decorative edge trim — also made in black, a 2m channel capping the exposed vertical edge of the glass.
