Kartell K-VIT K-Rail 25mm Straight Towel Rail – Chrome (All Sizes)

The K-Rail 25mm Straight is a sturdier version of Kartell's classic ladder towel rail: straight, round 25mm bars – a little chunkier than the standard 22mm K-Rail – between two slim D-shaped uprights, arranged in groups with open gaps where folded towels can hang. It is a simple, practical design with a lot of hanging space.

A bright chrome finish suits almost any bathroom and matches chrome taps, showers and accessories.

It comes in 18 sizes – 800mm, 1000mm, 1200mm or 1600mm high in 300mm, 400mm, 500mm or 600mm widths, plus 1800mm high in 500mm or 600mm widths. Choose your size from the first dropdown.

Matching valves

Valves are needed to connect any towel rail to the heating, and are not included as standard. To save buying them separately, the second dropdown lets you add a pair of chrome angled, corner or straight valves. Angled valves are for pipes coming out of the wall; straight valves are for pipes coming up through the floor. Choose “Towel Rail Only” if you already have valves.

Choosing a size

Taller rails give more hanging space and more heat; wider rails add a little more heat and room for bigger bath towels. The 800mm heights suit cloakrooms, en-suites and short walls, while the taller sizes suit family bathrooms. Outputs range from 1106 to 3830 BTU depending on size.

If the towel rail will be the only heat in the room, check its output against what the room needs – a BTU calculator will give you a figure from the room's size, windows and outside walls. Kartell quote the output at Δt60, a standard test temperature. Many modern boilers, and especially heat pumps, run cooler than that, so the heat you actually get may be lower than the figure shown.

Fitting

The K-Rail is supplied with everything needed to fix it to the wall (wall brackets, plugs and air vent), and is suitable for standard central heating systems with a maximum working pressure of 7 bar. Each rail is pressure tested to 10 bar.

The pipe connections are at the bottom of each upright. The distance between them (the “tapping centres”) is 45mm less than the width of the rail: 255mm on the 300mm wide sizes, 355mm on the 400mm wide sizes, 455mm on the 500mm wide sizes and 555mm on the 600mm wide sizes. If you are replacing an existing towel rail, measure between your pipes first – if the spacing does not match, the pipework will need adjusting. Make sure the wall can take the weight once the rail is full of water and towels: solid walls are straightforward, but stud and plasterboard walls need suitable heavy-duty fixings or a timber support behind the board.

Looking after the finish

Wipe over with a soft, damp cloth and dry to avoid water marks. Avoid abrasive pads, bleach and limescale removers, which can damage chrome plating.
