Selecta is a smart electric towel rail from Kartell. Instead of round tubes it has wide, flat 40mm bars that sweep out from a single upright on one side, arranged in groups of three with open gaps between them for folded towels – a clean, modern look that works as a statement piece. This is the matt black version; it also comes in Chrome and Brushed Brass.

Matt black gives a bold, modern look that pairs well with black taps and showers, and hides water marks better than a shiny finish.

It comes in two sizes – 800mm or 1100mm high, both 500mm wide. Choose your size from the dropdown.

Smart controls

Because it is electric, Selecta does not need to be connected to your central heating – it works on its own, so you can have warm, dry towels at any time of year, even when the heating is off. The control panel on the upright lets you:

• Set the temperature between 30°C and 60°C
• Use the customisable timer so it only comes on when you need it
• Control it from your phone with the easy-to-use iNOW app

It has a dry heating element, which means the rail is not filled with water or oil – there is no liquid inside to top up or leak.

Sizes and power

Fitting

Selecta runs on a standard 230V supply and can be wired with the cable either exposed or concealed in the wall, so you can choose a neat hidden connection or a simpler surface installation. It is supplied with fixings for mounting to the wall, and sits 88mm out from the wall at its deepest point.

Electric towel rails in bathrooms must be wired in line with the UK wiring regulations, which set out where electrical equipment can go in relation to the bath and shower. We recommend having it installed by a qualified electrician. Make sure the wall can take the weight: solid walls are straightforward, but stud and plasterboard walls need suitable fixings or a timber support behind the board.

Looking after the finish

Wipe over with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive pads, bleach and strong bathroom cleaners, which can dull or mark a matt finish. Switch the rail off and let it cool before cleaning.
