A wet room screen contains the spray without enclosing the shower, keeping the level-access, step-free layout that makes a wet room work. There is no tray lip and no door to pull open.
Types of screen
- Fixed walk-in panels — a single sheet of glass fixed to the wall and floor. The simplest option and the most common in a domestic wet room.
- Hinged and deflector panels — a smaller pivoting section at the end of a fixed panel, letting you angle spray back into the shower area.
- Half height carer screens — 750mm or 900mm high, giving splash protection while leaving overhead access for a carer to assist. Essential in care and assisted-living settings; see our AKW half height range.
Bracing and stability
A tall glass panel fixed only at the wall will flex. Most walk-in panels use a ceiling or wall brace bar for rigidity — check whether one is included or needs ordering separately, and make sure there is something solid to fix it to.
Planning the layout
Position the screen so spray travels away from the door and the dry zone. Allow generous distance between the shower head and the open end — the further the water travels, the less energy it has by the time it reaches the edge.
Pair with a wet floor former and a tanking kit for a complete installation.
