Wet Room Tanking Kit Accessories

Tanking is the waterproof layer that stops water getting through tile grout and into the walls and floor of a wet room or shower area. Grout is not waterproof, so every wet room needs a properly tanked substrate before it is tiled or finished with safety flooring. This collection holds the individual products used to build that layer, so you can buy exactly what your job needs or top up a kit.

What each product does

• Primer – prepares absorbent surfaces such as plaster, screed and board so the membrane bonds properly.
• Liquid membrane (Mapegum WPS, Mapelastic AquaDefense) – brushed or rolled on in coats to form a seamless waterproof skin.
• Tape, corners and gaskets (Mapeband) – reinforce the weak points where membrane alone can crack: wall-to-floor and wall-to-wall joints, internal and external corners, pipe inlets and the waste outlet.

How to choose

Work out the area to be tanked (floor plus the wall area around the shower, normally to at least 2m high in the wet zone), then check the coverage on each product page. Always tape every joint and corner before applying membrane, and fit a gasket around the waste and any pipes.
