Kartell K-VIT Phase Mini Mono Basin Mixer with Click Waste – Chrome (TAP034PH)
The Kartell K-VIT Phase range is built on a square base with a flat, blade-like spout — a crisp modern shape that suits square sanitaryware and a contemporary room. Kartell describe it as "immaculate opulence with its stunning waterfall design".
This is the mini mono basin mixer, the smallest tap in the range, and it comes complete with a click waste.
What "mini" means, and when to choose it
A mini basin mixer is a shorter, slimmer version of the standard tap. It is meant for a cloakroom or en-suite basin — the small ones, often only 35 to 45cm wide, where a full-size tap looks overbearing and its spout can overhang the bowl.
This one stands 122mm tall on a 49mm square base, with the spout reaching 85mm out over the bowl. That projection is the number to check against your basin: measure from the middle of your tap hole to the middle of the bowl, and if it is much more than 85mm the water will land towards the back rather than the centre. If your basin is a standard 55cm or wider, the full-size Phase mono basin mixer is the one you want.
What flow will I actually get?
Kartell publish figures for this tap, and they are worth reading, because they are not what you would expect:
| Pressure | Flow |
|---|---|
| 0.2 bar | 7.4 l/min |
| 0.5 bar | 9.2 l/min |
| 1.0 bar | 11.7 l/min |
| 2.0 bar | 15.5 l/min |
| 3.0 bar | 18.4 l/min |
A basin tap starts to feel comfortable at around 6 litres a minute. This one is past that even at 0.2 bar, the lowest pressure it is rated for.
The mini is comfortably the strongest-flowing basin tap in the Phase range. The full-size Phase mono basin mixer gives 4.6 l/min at 1 bar; this one gives 11.7, well over twice as much. So if you are on gravity-fed plumbing, or anywhere flow has been a disappointment before, the smaller and cheaper tap is genuinely the better buy here — which is not something you can often say.
Water pressure
Kartell rate this tap suitable for low water pressure systems — it will run from as little as 0.2 bar, so it works on a gravity-fed tank and cylinder as well as on mains, combi or unvented pressure.
Living with it
The ceramic disc cartridge with quarter-turn operation gives full flow from a small movement and is far less prone to dripping than a washer tap.
A flat blade spout gives a wide, thin stream rather than a round one, so expect a broad flat fall of water rather than a narrow jet.
Square profiles give limescale more corners to sit in than round ones, so in a hard water area a regular wipe keeps it sharp.
The rest of the Phase range
The range also includes a mono basin mixer with click waste, a bath filler and a bath shower mixer.
