Description

Kartell K-VIT Times Pair of Bath Pillar Taps – Chrome (TAP085TI)

The Kartell K-VIT Times range pairs crosshead handles with slim, modern shapes — the handles marked with red and blue rings so it is obvious which is which. Kartell call it “effortless sophistication” with “timeless character”, and that is the right idea: it is not a reproduction period tap, but it is not a hard-edged contemporary one either. It sits comfortably in a modern bathroom and equally well in an older house.

This is a pair of bath pillar taps: two separate taps, one hot and one cold.

Pillar taps or a bath filler?

Pillar taps are the traditional arrangement — two separate taps, no mixing. You fill with both running and mix in the bath.

Choose them where the look matters: a period bathroom, a roll-top bath, or a room where a single mixer spout would look wrong. They need a two tap hole bath.

The honest trade-off: you cannot set a temperature at the tap. That is how bathrooms worked for a century, but it is less convenient than the Times bath filler, where one spout delivers water already mixed. If convenience matters more than period accuracy, the bath filler is the better buy.

Before you order

Check your bath has two tap holes at the correct centres. A bath drilled for a mixer usually has them closer together than a pillar pair needs.

These use 3/4" BSP connections, larger than the 1/2" on basin taps.

The waste is sold separately.

Water pressure

Suitable for low pressure systems, so they work on gravity-fed plumbing as well as mains pressure.

Living with it

The ceramic disc cartridges with quarter-turn operation give full flow from a small movement of the handle, and are far less likely to drip than traditional washer taps. Crosshead taps were the classic dripper; these should not be.

Polished chrome needs nothing more than a wipe with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners and do not leave limescale remover to soak — both cut through the plating, and dull chrome cannot be brought back.

The rest of the Times range

There is a matching pair of basin pillar taps, plus a mono basin mixer with click waste, the compact branch mono and a bath shower mixer.
