The Kartell K-VIT Times range pairs crosshead handles with slim, modern shapes — the handles marked with red and blue rings so it is obvious which is which. Kartell call it “effortless sophistication” with “timeless character”, and that is the right idea: it is not a reproduction period tap, but it is not a hard-edged contemporary one either. It sits comfortably in a modern bathroom and equally well in an older house.

This is the bath filler: a deck-mounted tap that sits on the rim of the bath and fills it, with no shower function.

Bath filler or bath shower mixer?

A bath filler (this one) just fills the bath. Choose it where you already have a separate shower, or where nothing showers over the bath. It is the cleaner look of the two — no hose trailing over the rim — and it costs less.

A bath shower mixer adds a diverter and a handset. If you need to shower or rinse over the bath, pick that instead; the two are otherwise the same tap.

Before you order

This is a two tap hole deck-mounted tap.

Bath fillers use 3/4" BSP connections — larger than the 1/2" on basin taps — because a bath needs to fill in reasonable time. Check your existing tails, as swapping between sizes needs adaptors.

The waste is sold separately. A bath needs a waste and overflow set, which is not included here.

Suitable for low pressure systems, though on gravity-fed plumbing any bath tap fills slowly. That is the system, not the tap.

Living with it

The ceramic disc cartridges with quarter-turn operation give full flow from a small movement of the handle, and are far less likely to drip than traditional washer taps. Crosshead taps were the classic dripper; these should not be.

Polished chrome needs nothing more than a wipe with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners and do not leave limescale remover to soak — both cut through the plating, and dull chrome cannot be brought back.
