The Kartell K-VIT Times range pairs crosshead handles with slim, modern shapes — the handles marked with red and blue rings so it is obvious which is which. Kartell call it “effortless sophistication” with “timeless character”, and that is the right idea: it is not a reproduction period tap, but it is not a hard-edged contemporary one either. It sits comfortably in a modern bathroom and equally well in an older house.

This is the bath shower mixer: a deck-mounted bath tap with a diverter and a shower handset on a flexible hose.

What it does

It fills the bath like a normal bath filler, and the diverter sends the water to the handset instead — so you can shower over the bath, rinse hair, or clean the bath down without a separate shower installation.

If you already have a shower elsewhere and only need to fill the bath, the Times bath filler costs less and looks tidier without the hose.

Before you order

This is a two tap hole deck-mounted tap, the usual arrangement on a bath.

Bath taps use 3/4" BSP connections, larger than the 1/2" on basin taps, so check your existing tails.

The waste is sold separately. A bath needs a waste and overflow set, which is not included here.

Suitable for low pressure systems. Being straight about what that means: the tap works on gravity-fed plumbing, but the handset will be a gentle spray rather than a powerful shower. That is your water pressure, not the tap. For a proper shower over the bath you need a pump.

Living with it

The ceramic disc cartridges with quarter-turn operation give full flow from a small movement of the handle, and are far less likely to drip than traditional washer taps. Crosshead taps were the classic dripper; these should not be.

Polished chrome needs nothing more than a wipe with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners and do not leave limescale remover to soak — both cut through the plating, and dull chrome cannot be brought back.
