AKW 1000 Series Fold Up Shower Seat with Back & Arms – Choice of Padding

AKW 1000 Series Fold Up Shower Seat with Back & Arms – Choice of Padding

The AKW 1000 Series fold up shower seat is a compact, durable wall-mounted seat with a backrest and arms, built around a rust-proof aluminium frame. It safely supports users up to 25 stone (158kg) and folds away against the wall when it is not in use. Choose it unpadded, or with grey or blue padding on the seat, back and arms – the blue gives strong colour contrast.

Thoughtful details make it a favourite for adaptations: ribbed arm and seat surfaces give extra grip during side transfers, the hinges are shrouded to reduce the risk of trapped fingers, and the polyurethane padding will not absorb water even if it is cut or damaged.

Key features & benefits

• ±13mm foot adjustment to compensate for floor gradient
• Ribbed arm and seat surfaces for better grip during side transfers
• Polyurethane padding that will not absorb water; removable for cleaning
• Shrouded hinges to reduce finger trapping
• Two mounting brackets for wall fixing

Choosing your seat

The unpadded seat (01111) is the most hygienic option where a seat is shared. The padded seats (01122 grey, 01123 blue) are warmer and more comfortable for longer showers – choose blue where colour contrast against white tiles matters. Replacement arm and seat pad kits and a leg kit are on our AKW 1000 & 3000 Series spare parts page.

Installation notes

A wall-mounted shower seat is only as safe as the wall it is fixed to. Fit it to a solid masonry wall, or to a stud wall that has been properly reinforced with a pattress board or noggins, using fixings suited to the wall and the load. Wall fixings are not normally supplied, because the correct fixing depends on your wall. Check for hidden pipes and cables before drilling, and follow AKW's fitting instructions. Where the seat is being fitted for a specific person, an occupational therapist can advise on the best seat height and position.
