AKW 1200 Series Epoxy Coated Stainless Steel Grab Rail – Choice of Size, Shape & Colour
The AKW 1200 Series epoxy coated stainless steel grab rail gives the strength of a stainless steel core with a warm, smooth coloured finish. The 32mm diameter rail is easy to grasp and is tested to a safe working load of 150kg (23.5 stone). Straight rails come in 300mm, 450mm and 600mm lengths in white, mid grey or dark blue – the coloured finishes add contrast against pale walls, making the rail quick to find.
The range also includes a 265 x 265mm angled rail, a wall-fixed T shape rail (1200 x 300 x 300mm) and a stand alone T shape rail (1110 x 300 x 300mm), all in white, giving both horizontal and vertical handholds from a single rail – ideal beside a toilet or in a shower area.
Key features & benefits
- Stainless steel core with a durable epoxy coated finish
- 32mm diameter – shaped to be easy to grip
- Tested to a safe working load of 150kg (23.5 stone) – straight rails
- Three fixing points per flange for a secure fit
- Captive flange covers hide the fixings for a neat finish
- 56mm rail-to-wall clearance
- White, mid grey and dark blue straight rails for colour contrast
- Angled and T shape rails in white for combined horizontal and vertical support
How to choose
Straight rails are the most flexible: fit them horizontally for steadying, vertically for pulling up, or at an angle beside a toilet. The angled rail follows the natural movement of rising from a seat. T shape rails provide two horizontal and one vertical grab position in one product – useful in a shower where a user may need to steady themselves and pull up from a shower seat.
Colour: where a rail is fitted on a white or light wall, mid grey or dark blue gives good visual contrast. White suits a more discreet look.
Installation notes
A grab rail is only as strong as the wall it is fixed to. Always use fixings suited to the wall type (solid masonry, timber stud or plasterboard with noggins or a pattress board) and fit the rail with every fixing point used. Wall fixings are not normally supplied, because the right fixing depends on your wall. Check for hidden pipes and cables before drilling. Where a rail is being fitted for a specific person, an occupational therapist can advise on the best height and position.

Frequently asked questions
Why choose a coloured grab rail?
A rail that contrasts with the wall behind it is easier to see, so it can be located quickly.
Does the coating feel cold?
The epoxy coating is smoother and warmer to the touch than bare metal.
Which rail is best in a shower?
A T shape rail gives both horizontal and vertical grab points, so it is a popular choice in a shower; straight rails also work well fitted vertically by the shower entry.
Are fixings supplied?
No – choose fixings suited to your wall type.
