AKW 1700 Series Floor to Ceiling Support Pole – With or Without Stay

The AKW 1700 Series floor to ceiling support pole gives a firm, vertical handhold running from floor to ceiling, so it can be gripped at whatever height suits the user. That makes it ideal for multi-user environments – care homes, accessible bathrooms and shared facilities – where people of different heights and abilities need support when standing up, turning or transferring from a bed, chair, toilet or bath.

Two versions are available: the 2750mm x 37mm support pole, and the 2750mm x 32mm support pole with a 500mm stay that braces the pole back to the wall for extra rigidity. Both are finished in white and tested to BS EN 12182:1999.

Which pole do I need?

Choose the 37mm pole (01720) for a free-standing vertical support, for example beside a bed, chair or toilet. Choose the 32mm pole with 500mm stay (01730) where an adjacent wall is available – the stay ties the pole back to the wall to add stiffness. Measure your floor-to-ceiling height before ordering, and call us on 0333 772 4162 if you are unsure whether the pole will suit your room.

Installation notes

The pole must be fixed into solid structure at both the floor and the ceiling – for example a joist or noggin above and a solid floor below. Fixings are not normally supplied, as they depend on your floor and ceiling construction. We recommend installation by a competent installer, and an occupational therapist can advise on the best position for the user.
