AKW 1800 Series Fold Up Toilet Support Rail – With or Without Leg, Choice of Colour

AKW 1800 Series Fold Up Toilet Support Rail – With or Without Leg, Choice of Colour

The AKW 1800 Series fold up support rail (also known as a drop down rail or hinged hairpin rail) gives strong, two-handed support beside a toilet and folds up against the wall when it is not needed – keeping the space clear for wheelchair transfers and carers. Made from 32mm diameter steel projecting 765mm from the wall, it is designed for accessible bathrooms, multi-user accessible toilets and Doc M solutions.

Choose a rail without a leg, with a fixed support leg, or with an adjustable support leg that adjusts in 25mm steps for extra strength and stability. Colours include white, blue, dark blue, mid grey and stainless steel (availability depends on style) – coloured rails add high-visibility contrast.

Key features & benefits

• Folds up against the wall to save space
• 32mm diameter steel, 765mm projection
• Epoxy resin coating over a rust inhibitor treatment (coloured rails)
• Salt-spray tested to ASTM B117-87 (except stainless steel versions)
• Optional support leg – fixed or adjustable in 25mm increments
• Toilet roll holder supplied as an optional fit
• Ideal for multi-user accessible toilets and Doc M installations
• White, blue, dark blue, mid grey or stainless steel

Which version do I need?

Without leg – the rail is supported by its wall plate alone; a good choice where the floor beside the toilet must stay completely clear. With fixed leg – a support leg drops to the floor when the rail is lowered, adding strength. With adjustable leg – the leg can be set in 25mm increments to suit the rail height, for maximum stability. Where there is no suitable wall beside the toilet, the rail can be mounted on the AKW 1800 Series free standing pillar.

Installation notes

Fold up rails apply high loads to the wall plate, so they must be fixed into solid masonry or a suitably reinforced stud wall using fixings suited to the wall. Fixings are not normally supplied. In a Doc M accessible toilet, fold up rails are positioned on the open (transfer) side of the toilet – please check the current guidance or call us on 0333 772 4162 for help.
