AKW Bumpy White tiles are textured ceramic wall tiles with a super-white, zircon-enhanced glaze. The gently bumpy surface scatters light, which AKW says helps reduce glare, while the very high light reflectance gives strong contrast against coloured sanitaryware, grab rails and flooring.

They are a practical, hard-wearing choice for accessible bathrooms, care homes and kitchens. Choose 200 x 250mm tiles (20 per pack, 1m²) or larger 250 x 330mm tiles (18 per pack, 1.5m²).

Working out quantities

Multiply the height and width of each wall in metres, add the walls together, subtract doors and windows, then add 10% for cuts as AKW recommends. Divide by 1m² for the 200 x 250mm tiles or 1.5m² for the 250 x 330mm tiles and round up to whole packs.

A tiling checklist. For a long-lasting tiled bathroom, start with a flat, sound base – tile backer board fixed with backer washers and screws is ideal on stud walls and where old plaster is poor. Fix ceramic wall tiles with a suitable adhesive such as Bond it Supergrip, keep joints even with tile spacers, and allow the adhesive to dry fully before grouting with Steri-Grout. Finish exposed edges with a tile trim and use a tile-to-vinyl transition strip where tiles meet safety flooring.
