The AKW Doc M Washroom Accessories are the same fittings AKW supplies in its fully compliant Doc M packs, available to buy individually so you can complete or upgrade an accessible toilet. Each accessory is designed to be easy to reach and use from a seated position or with limited hand strength, and to contrast with its surroundings.

Key features & benefits

• Toilet tissue dispenser (23138) – lockable ABS dispenser holding a stack of up to 240 sheets (tissues up to 110 x 110mm). 135 x 290 x 130mm.
• Large paper towel dispenser (23139) – lockable, takes interleaved or C-fold towels up to 255mm wide in a stack up to 350mm. 285 x 380 x 110mm.
• Lever operated soap dispenser (23142) – an extended blue lever that can be pressed with a hand, closed fist or elbow; refillable with liquid soap. 120 x 260 x 200mm.
• Small and large shelves (23145 / 23146) – white polypropylene with rounded edges and a drainage hole, removable for cleaning. The small shelf sits beside the toilet (for example for a colostomy bag); the large shelf goes beside the basin.
• Blue clothes hook (23144) – high-contrast blue, fixings supplied.
• Emergency alarm & pull cord (23143) – pull cord with two red bangles, 90dBA audible alarm and flashing red light, control panel with power and activated LEDs and a reset switch. 12V DC, designed to BS 8300:2009 guidance.
• Automatic hand dryer (23624-UK) – 2.3kW with a high-output element, tough white ABS cover, adjustable proximity sensor, 60-second safety cut-out, IP21. 5 year warranty.

Choosing and positioning accessories

Approved Document M sets out where accessories should go in an accessible toilet – for example, shelves at 760mm above the floor, a colostomy shelf at 950mm where a low-level cistern is used, clothes hooks at 1050mm and 1400mm, and dispensers and the hand dryer within reach of a seated user. Installation notes

• The alarm needs a 3A fused switched spur (or a dedicated fused plug and socket) and the hand dryer a 230V supply – both should be installed by a qualified electrician.
• Fix all accessories to walls suitable for the load using appropriate fixings.
