Shallow joists and solid floors are the classic headache in wet room design: there is simply not enough depth under the former for a conventional trap. AKW’s low height wastes solve that, with a 90mm waste body only 48mm–53mm deep, supplied here with a Tuff Form adaptor so they drop straight into a Tuff Form or Tuff Form8.

There are two waste types. The DW90 dry waste uses a non-return valve to stop drain odours, so it does not rely on a water seal, and offers about 27 litres per minute flow. The GW90-2 wet waste holds water in the trap in the conventional way. Each comes with a Tuff Form adaptor for a tiled floor (stainless steel) or a vinyl floor.

DW90 or GW90-2, tiled or vinyl?

Floor finish first: choose a tiled floor adaptor if you are tiling and a vinyl floor adaptor if you are laying safety vinyl. Then the waste: the DW90 dry waste is a good choice where the shower may not be used for long periods, since it does not depend on a water seal that can evaporate. Installation notes

Fit the waste and adaptor into the former before finishing the floor, connect with a continuous fall to the drain, then tile up to the adaptor or clamp the vinyl into it.
