AKW McAlpine Wet Room Shower Gully – Choice of Trapped, Untrapped & Valve Gullies
A shower gully is the drain at the heart of a wet room floor. These McAlpine gullies are supplied through AKW as approved options for their wet floor formers, including the Contour ShowerDec and Tuff Form, and for traditional screeded wet room floors.
Six gullies are available in one listing so you can pick the right body, water seal and outlet for your floor: deep 75mm water seal trapped gullies with round or square chrome tops, two-piece 50mm water seal gullies for shallower floors, an untrapped gully with a 22mm outlet for use with a shower waste pump, and the VSG1 valve gully.
Water-seal gullies hold a depth of water in the trap to block drain smells. The deeper the seal, the better it resists being siphoned or evaporating – but the more depth you need under the floor. Choosing the right gully is mainly about how much depth you have and whether the waste will drain by gravity or be pumped.

How to choose a wet room gully
Draining by gravity with plenty of depth? Choose a 75mm water seal trapped gully (TSG2SS round, or TSG2T6SS square with a vertical outlet for dropping straight through a suspended floor).
Gravity drainage but limited depth? The two-piece 50mm water seal TSG52 gullies need less depth. The TSG52T150SS square chrome top version is the one AKW specify for the Contour ShowerDec former.
No fall to a drain? Use the USG1SS untrapped gully with a 22mm outlet, connected to a shower waste pump such as the AKW DigiPump or P12. Still unsure? Our complete guide to AKW wet room wastes explains how to choose by floor finish and depth below the former, and our team can check your layout on 0333 772 4162.
Installation notes
Check the depth available below the finished floor before ordering. Bed the gully body level and secure, connect the outlet, and seal it into the tanking membrane with a Mapeband waste outlet gasket before tiling or laying vinyl.

Frequently asked questions
Which gully do I need for a Contour ShowerDec?
AKW specify the McAlpine TSG52T150SSCON (08GT52-S) for ShowerDec, and it is one of the waste options on our ShowerDec product.
What is the difference between trapped and untrapped?
A trapped gully holds water to block smells and drains by gravity. The untrapped gully is for pumped systems, where the pump and its valves stop smells returning.
Can I use the untrapped gully without a pump?
No – it is designed to connect to a shower waste pump.
Which outlet direction should I choose?
Use a vertical outlet where the pipe drops straight through a suspended floor, and a horizontal outlet where it runs between joists or in a screed.
