The AKW Onyx 2 grab rail proves a grab rail does not have to look clinical. Its triangular profile gives a firmer, more secure grip than a round tube, and the minimalist, industrial-inspired design matches AKW's Onyx shower seats, trays and accessories. The rail is aluminium alloy in polished chrome with matt white bracket covers as standard, or all black.

Choose a 300, 450 or 600mm straight rail, the 135° angled rail (two 400mm sections with a centre bracket), or the T & L shaped rail – a 1200mm vertical shower riser rail with a 600mm horizontal grab rail that can be fitted in a T or L configuration to suit the user. Removable bracket covers hide the fixings for a clean look and easy cleaning, and can be swapped for nine other colours.

Choosing the right rail

Straight rails are the everyday choice beside a toilet, basin or bath, or inside the shower. 300mm suits tight spots, 450mm is a good all-round length and 600mm gives a longer handhold. The 135° angled rail supports the natural movement of pushing up from a seated position. The T & L shaped rail combines a shower riser rail and grab rail in one; the lever-operated slider holds the shower handset at any height. The riser does not include a shower valve, handset or hose.

Installation notes

Fix to a solid wall, or a stud wall reinforced with a pattress board, using fixings suited to the wall and the load, with every fixing point used. Check for hidden pipes and cables before drilling. An occupational therapist can advise on the best height and position for the user.

Why a triangular rail?

The triangular profile gives the hand more to hold on to, for a firmer grip than a round rail.

Can I change the bracket cover colour?

Yes – the covers are removable and can be swapped for any of the Onyx 2 interchangeable covers.

Does the T & L rail include a shower?

No – it is a riser rail and grab rail. The shower valve, handset and hose are not included.
