AKW Option BW Half Height Bi-Fold Carer Shower Screen Set for Wet Floors – Choice of Size, Height & Handing

AKW Option BW Half Height Bi-Fold Carer Shower Screen Set for Wet Floors – Choice of Size, Height & Handing

The AKW Option BW is a half height bi-fold carer shower screen set for level access wet floor showers. AKW designed it to meet current building regulations for special needs (Doc M) and it comes as a complete pack, ready to install. The low screens keep the spray inside the showering area while a carer stands outside and helps.

Bi-fold doors on 360° hinges fold back out of the way for wheelchair and carer access, and the set includes handles, frosted shatterproof PET panels and an L-shaped curtain rail with white curtains. Choose 1400 x 900mm or 1500 x 820mm, a 750mm or 900mm screen height, and left or right handing.

How to choose the right screen set

Size: the size is the width x depth of the showering area the screens enclose – available in 1400 x 900mm and 1500 x 820mm. Match it to the size of your wet floor showering area, and measure the space wall to wall before ordering.

Height: 750mm screens give a carer the easiest reach over the top and suit most assisted showering. 900mm screens hold back more spray and give a little more privacy, while still letting a carer help.

Handing: stand outside the shower looking in. If the open entry side of the enclosure is on your left, choose Left Hand; if it is on your right, choose Right Hand. If you are unsure, send us a sketch or call us and we will confirm the handing for you.

These screens are ideal for care homes, hospitals, supported living and family homes where someone needs help to shower – the user can shower seated or standing while the carer stays outside the spray.

Important fitting notes

• AKW advise that power showers should not be used with AKW trays and screens, and that only AKW screens are used on AKW trays so the water seals are not compromised.
• The bottom door seals are water barriers, not watertight seals. If you also use the shower curtain, make sure it is long enough to protect the seals.
• Install on a correctly waterproofed (tanked) wet floor laid to falls towards the waste.

Installation

The screen set is supplied as a complete kit with handles, curtain rail and curtains, ready for a competent fitter to install. The frames fix to the walls, and drop rods (600mm long where supplied) secure the doors. Fit onto a level, fully tanked wet floor former or level access floor.

Frequently asked questions

Why choose half height screens rather than a full enclosure?

Half height screens let a carer stand outside the shower, reach over and help the person showering without getting soaked – while still keeping most of the water inside the showering area.

Is a shower curtain included?

Yes. An L-shaped curtain rail and white curtains are supplied as standard so the user's privacy is protected above the screens.

Can I use a power shower with these screens?

AKW advise that power showers should not be used with their trays and screens. An electric care shower or thermostatic mixer shower is the usual choice – call us on 0333 772 4162 for advice.

Which handing do I need?

Stand outside the shower looking in and note which side the entry is on. If you are still unsure, call us on 0333 772 4162 and we will help.
