AKW Option Y Half Height Carer Shower Screen Set for Shower Trays – Choice of Size, Height & Handing

AKW Option Y Half Height Carer Shower Screen Set for Shower Trays – Choice of Size, Height & Handing

The AKW Option Y half height carer shower screen set is designed for AKW shower trays. The low screens contain the spray around the person showering while a carer stands outside, reaches over and helps – so the carer stays dry and the user stays safe and supported.

Option Y is a handed corner screen set for rectangular trays, with frosted shatterproof PET panels, doors on locking two-way hinges and an L-shaped curtain rail with white curtains as standard. Choose the size to match your tray (from 1300 x 700mm to 1700 x 700mm), a 750mm or 900mm screen height, and left or right handing.

How to choose the right screen set

Size: the size is the width x depth of the showering area the screens enclose – available in 1300 x 700mm, 1300 x 820mm, 1350 x 750mm, 1420 x 700mm, 1420 x 820mm, 1470 x 750mm and 1700 x 700mm. Match it to your AKW shower tray and measure wall to wall before ordering.

Height: 750mm screens give a carer the easiest reach over the top and suit most assisted showering. 900mm screens hold back more spray and give a little more privacy, while still letting a carer help.

Handing: the set is made in left hand and right hand versions to suit the layout of your room. Stand outside the shower looking in to work out which side the doors need to be on – if you are unsure, send us a sketch or call us and we will confirm the handing for you.

These screens are ideal for care homes, hospitals, supported living and family homes where someone needs help to shower – the user can shower seated or standing while the carer stays outside the spray.

Important fitting notes

• The 1350 x 750mm and 1470 x 750mm sizes are only suitable for AKW Multi Spec / Pipe Duct shower trays.
• AKW advise that power showers should not be used with AKW trays and screens, and that only AKW screens are used with AKW trays so the water seals are not compromised.
• The bottom door seals are water barriers, not watertight seals. If you also use a shower curtain, make sure it is long enough to protect the seals.

Installation

The screen set is supplied as a kit ready for a competent fitter to install. The frames fix to the walls and the doors hang on two-way rising butt hinges; drop rods are 600mm long where supplied. Fit onto a level, correctly installed AKW shower tray of the matching size.

Frequently asked questions

Why choose half height screens rather than a full enclosure?

Half height screens let a carer stand outside the shower, reach over and help the person showering without getting soaked – while still keeping most of the water inside the showering area.

Is a shower curtain included?

Yes. L-shaped curtain rail and white curtains are supplied as standard, so the user's privacy is protected above the screens.

Can I use a power shower with these screens?

AKW advise that power showers should not be used with their trays and screens. An electric care shower or thermostatic mixer shower is the usual choice – call us on 0333 772 4162 for advice.

Will the screens fit a tray from another manufacturer?

AKW recommend fitting their screens to AKW shower trays only, as other trays may compromise the water seals. Some sizes are only for AKW Multi Spec / Pipe Duct trays – see the fitting notes above.

Which handing do I need?

Stand outside the shower looking in and note which side the doors need to be on. If you are still unsure, call us on 0333 772 4162 and we will help.
