AKW Origins Bathroom Wall Panels 11mm – Choice of Width, Edge & Colour

AKW Origins Bathroom Wall Panels 11mm – Choice of Width, Edge & Colour

AKW Origins bathroom wall panels give you the look of marble, stone or a clean plain finish without a single grout line. Each 11mm panel has a tough, water-resistant high-pressure laminate (HPL) face bonded to a moisture-resistant core, so it can go straight into a shower enclosure, around a bath or across a full wet room wall.

Choose a wide 1200mm square-edged panel for big, uninterrupted walls, or the interlocking 600mm and 900mm tongue & groove panels for a near-invisible joint on flat walls. All panels are 2400mm long, come in up to 17 designs and carry AKW's 35-year warranty when fitted to AKW's guidelines.

Key features & benefits

• No grout, no mould lines – large, wipe-clean panels replace hundreds of tile joints.
• HPL decorative face – the printed decor is impregnated with phenolic and melamine resins and pressed into a hard, water-resistant laminate, with a balancing laminate on the back.
• Strong enough for grab rails and shower seats – AKW confirms the panels are suitable for fixing weight-bearing accessories.
• Two edge systems – 1200mm square edge (5-layer plywood core) or 600mm / 900mm tongue & groove (moisture-resistant MDF core).
• Fits over existing tiles, plasterboard or concrete, cutting strip-out time and mess.
• Quick to fit with standard tools; panels can be cut to size on site.
• FSC-certified core suitable for wet rooms, showers and high-humidity areas.
• 35-year warranty when installed to AKW's instructions.

Choosing the right Origins panel

Square edge or tongue & groove? The 1200mm square-edged panel covers a typical shower wall in one piece and is joined to its neighbours with an H-section, corner or end-cap profile. The 600mm and 900mm tongue & groove panels lock together edge-to-edge for a seamless look on flat walls, and still use profiles at corners and exposed ends.

How many panels? Measure each wall's width and divide by the panel's actual coverage – roughly 1180mm for the 1200mm panel, 880mm for the 900mm and 580mm for the 600mm tongue & groove panels. Round up, and allow extra if you need to cut around windows or boxing. All panels are 2400mm long.

Picking a colour. Marble effects (Cloudy, Oyster, Toffee) suit a classic bathroom; the Bonito and Eiger stone looks hide splashes well; White Gloss, White Frost and the matt plains give a clean, bright finish. For an accessible bathroom, choose a panel that contrasts clearly with the floor, sanitaryware and grab rails.

Origins panels are widely used in accessible bathroom adaptations, care homes and rental properties because they are fast to fit, easy to keep hygienic and strong enough to take support rails. Not sure how many you need? Send us your wall sizes or call 0333 772 4162.

Installation notes

• Leave panels flat in the room for at least 3 days to acclimatise before fitting.
• Bond with a high-tensile adhesive such as the AKW Origins Multi-Purpose Adhesive (27729) and seal every joint and profile with silicone.
• Cover all exposed core edges with Origins aluminium profiles (end caps, corners, H-sections) – the profiles are sold separately.
• Fit to concrete, plasterboard or over sound existing tiles; uneven walls may need timber battens to give a flat surface.
• Clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent only – no scourers or abrasive cleaners.

Frequently asked questions

Can Origins panels go straight over old tiles?

Yes. AKW confirms they can be fitted directly over existing tiles as long as the tiles are sound and the wall is flat.

Can I fix a grab rail or shower seat to them?

Yes. The panels are suitable for fixing weight-bearing accessories. Always fix through into suitable supports behind the panel.

Do I need trims?

Yes. Every exposed edge and corner should be covered with an Origins profile – end caps, internal and external corners and H-sections are available in white, black, satin aluminium and polished chrome.

Why do some colours cost more?

Cabana Wood, Irish Cream Matt and Warm Grey Matt are priced higher by AKW, so they cost a little more than the standard designs.

Which colours are available in each width?

Most designs come in all three widths. The sizes & product codes table above shows exactly which codes are available.
