AKW Silverdale Option M Half Height Carer Shower Screen Set for Shower Trays – Choice of Width, Height & Glass

AKW Silverdale Option M Half Height Carer Shower Screen Set for Shower Trays – Choice of Width, Height & Glass

The AKW Silverdale Option M half height carer shower screen set is designed for AKW shower trays. The low screens contain the spray around the person showering while a carer stands outside, reaches over and helps – so the carer stays dry and the user stays safe and supported.

Option M Silverdale is a non-handed in-line screen set with doors on locking two-way hinges and a curtain rail with white curtains as standard. Silverdale screens have a metallic silver frame for a smarter, more domestic look, with shatterproof PET panels that are easy to keep clean. Choose the width of your opening (800mm to 1300mm), a 750mm or 900mm screen height, and clear or frosted glazing.

How to choose the right screen set

Width: the width is the length of the opening the screens run across, wall to wall – available in 800mm, 900mm, 1000mm, 1200mm and 1300mm. Measure the opening at floor level and at screen height and choose the width that matches your AKW shower tray.

Height: 750mm screens give a carer the easiest reach over the top and suit most assisted showering. 900mm screens hold back more spray and give a little more privacy, while still letting a carer help.

Handing: this set is non-handed, so it can be fitted either way round.

Glazing: clear panels keep the bathroom light and open; frosted panels give the person showering more privacy.

These screens are ideal for care homes, hospitals, supported living and family homes where someone needs help to shower – the user can shower seated or standing while the carer stays outside the spray.

Important fitting notes

• AKW advise that power showers should not be used with AKW trays and screens, and that only AKW screens are used with AKW trays so the water seals are not compromised.
• The bottom door seals are water barriers, not watertight seals. If you also use a shower curtain, make sure it is long enough to protect the seals.

Installation

The screen set is supplied as a kit ready for a competent fitter to install. The frames fix to the walls and the doors hang on two-way rising butt hinges; drop rods are 600mm long where supplied. Fit onto a level, correctly installed AKW shower tray of the matching size.

Frequently asked questions

Why choose half height screens rather than a full enclosure?

Half height screens let a carer stand outside the shower, reach over and help the person showering without getting soaked – while still keeping most of the water inside the showering area.

Is a shower curtain included?

Yes. Straight curtain rail and white curtains are supplied as standard, so the user's privacy is protected above the screens.

Can I use a power shower with these screens?

AKW advise that power showers should not be used with their trays and screens. An electric care shower or thermostatic mixer shower is the usual choice – call us on 0333 772 4162 for advice.

Will the screens fit a tray from another manufacturer?

AKW recommend fitting their screens to AKW shower trays only, as other trays may compromise the water seals.

Do the doors open both ways?

Yes. The 180° hinges let the doors open inwards and outwards.
