Description
The AKW Tuff Form8 Wet Room Floor Former is AKW's flagship level-access wet room base, and the answer to the single most awkward problem in wet room fitting: the waste never lands where the joists let it.
Tuff Form8 solves it with a rotating octagonal plate offering up to 15 waste positions — including a genuinely central one, which the original Tuff Form cannot do. Whatever your joist pattern, there is a position that clears it. Moulded from SMC-GRP at just 22mm deep and rated to 60 stone (381kg) on timber joists.
What makes Tuff Form8 different
- Rotating octagonal waste plate — 15 positions. Suits every standard UK joist pattern, and allows a central waste if you want one.
- The plate lifts out. Pipework goes in from above, so no working blind under the former.
- No screw-hole drilling for the waste — it locates into the plate.
- No underboarding needed, unlike many competing formers.
- Continual 1:16 fall to the waste in every direction, so no pooling anywhere in the shower area.
- 22mm thick — matched to an 18mm UK floorboard plus 4mm ply, so no packing out.
- Trimmable to within 150mm of the octagonal plate.
- Works with electric underfloor heating.
- Ribbed underside stops slippage or float while fixing.
- Pre-formed fixing holes and a step-by-step installation guide.
- Lifetime guarantee from AKW (exclusions apply).
Tuff Form8 or standard Tuff Form?
Both are 22mm SMC-GRP formers rated to 381kg, and both take the same wastes. The difference is the waste position. The standard Tuff Form has a fixed offset waste — cheaper, and fine when the offset happens to miss your joists. Tuff Form8 gives you 15 positions to choose from on site, which is what you want on an awkward or unsurveyed floor, in a retrofit, or when you specifically need the waste centred.
Choosing your waste
Tiling over the former
You must use a stainless steel waste — plastic vinyl-clamping wastes will not seal reliably under tile. You will also need a tanking kit.
- SS-TF75 1 Part Gravity Waste (LB00101) — the standard tiled-floor choice, 75mm water seal.
- DW90 Low Depth Dry Waste with tiled floor adaptor (25418-UK) — for shallow build-ups.
Vinyl safety flooring
- TF75 1 Part Gravity Waste (25106) — 75mm seal, 125mm below the former, opens for cleaning and rodding.
- GW50 Gravity Waste with adaptor (25124) — 50mm seal, 124mm depth.
- GW19 Gravity Waste with adaptor (25129) — 19mm seal, 93mm depth, for tight joists.
No gravity fall available
- Silentflow+ PGTF 22mm Pumped Waste (25414) — AKW's low-noise pumped gulley for vinyl floor wet rooms.
Choose No Waste if you are supplying your own.

Frequently asked questions
Can I put the waste in the centre of the tray? Yes — that is one of the 15 positions on the octagonal plate, and it is the main reason people choose Tuff Form8 over the standard Tuff Form.
Do I need to underboard it? No. Tuff Form8 fixes directly to joists without underboarding.
Can I tile over it? Yes, with a tanking kit and a stainless steel waste option.
Can it be trimmed? Yes, to within 150mm of the octagonal plate.
Will it work with underfloor heating? Yes, with electric underfloor heating installed to AKW's instructions.
