AKW U Shaped Shower Curtain Rail – Choice of Size & Colour

AKW U Shaped Shower Curtain Rail – Choice of Size & Colour

The AKW U shaped shower curtain rail wraps a shower curtain around three sides of a shower tray, wet room area or bath, so water stays inside the showering zone while the user, and anyone helping them, still has open access. It is the rail most often chosen for accessible bathrooms, care homes and wet rooms where a fixed glass screen would get in the way of a wheelchair, a shower chair or a carer.

Choose from 19 ready-sized U shaped rails to match the most common tray and recess sizes, or pick one of the cut-to-size kits for larger or unusual spaces of up to 3550mm total length. A Silverdale finish kit is available to match AKW Silverdale shower screens.

Key features & benefits

• Three-sided U shape for a fully enclosed curtain area without a glass screen
• Powder-coated finish for long life in wet rooms – the rail can be cut to length on site
• Supplied as a kit with the rail, wall brackets, ceiling drop rods and fixings
• Smooth hook and glider system so the curtain moves easily – helpful for users with limited grip or strength
• 19 standard sizes plus cut-to-size kits up to 3550mm total length
• White as standard, with a Silverdale option to match AKW Silverdale screens
• Ideal partner for AKW shower trays, wet floor formers and care showers

How to choose the right size

Sizes are shown as return x front x return in millimetres. The two returns are the short sides that come out from the wall, and the front is the long run across the open side. For example, 820 x 1220 x 820mm suits an area around 820mm deep and 1220mm wide.

1. Measure from the back wall to where you want the front of the curtain to hang – this is the return.
2. Measure the width across the front of the area – this is the front length.
3. Pick the nearest standard size at or slightly above your measurements; the rail can be trimmed for a neat fit.
4. If your space is bigger than the standard sizes, choose a cut-to-size kit by the total rail length you need (return + front + return).

Pair your rail with AKW white shower curtains or AKW heavy duty shower curtains, which come in a range of widths and drops.

Installation notes

The rail fixes to the walls with the brackets supplied and is held level along the front by ceiling drop rods. Check the ceiling above the front run can take a fixing (joist or suitable plasterboard fixing). Long front runs may need extra ceiling support – see our AKW ceiling support kits and drop rods. Use a lightweight curtain; heavy curtains should be paired with extra support.

Frequently asked questions

Is a shower curtain included?

No. Curtains are sold separately so you can choose the width and drop that suit your space.

Can I cut the rail down?

Yes. The rail can be trimmed on site to give an exact fit to your tray or wet room area.

What does 820 x 1220 x 820mm mean?

It is the return, the front length and the other return in millimetres – the two short sides and the long front side of the U.

Is this rail suitable for a care home or accessible bathroom?

Yes. A curtain rail keeps the showering area open for wheelchair and carer access, which is why U shaped rails are widely used in care settings.
